Additional Ways to Get More Website Traffic

While search engines are a very important way to drive visitors to your site, there are additional tools that will also help, many of which are free.
Link Vault
This is a free service that is a very good way to build one way inbound links. You add a small bit of code to your pages and the link vault server will add from one to five links to the pages on your site where the code is placed. In return, links to your site are place on other pages in the network.
While similar to reciprocal links, these are much better since you are linking to sites other than those linking to you.

Submitting to Directories
One of the best ways to start getting inbound liks is to get listed in website directories. There are literally thousands of directories, and many are specific to a particular topic. A good place to start looking for topic specific directories is: http://dmoz.org/Reference/Directories/.

Issue Press Releases
You can issue a press release to announce the opening of your website, a new product introduction, or any other newsworthy topic that pertains to your business or website.
Writing the actual press release is very important. If you do not have the knowledge to write an effective press release, then hire a writer or learn it yourself. You could do a search for "how to write an effective press release" or something similar.
There are several ways to distribute your press release. Our favorite is PRWeb, a press release service that alows you to issue your press release for free or pay varying amounts to increase the reach of your press release.
We recently used PRWeb to send out a press release for a brand new site dealing with health insurance for employers. The day the press releases was issued the site got lots of visits, the client got new business leads, and even a phone call from a reproter for ABC television in New York who is researching the topic for a special to run in the spring. There is a good chance the site will be featured in the ABC special!
