Get Your Organization Name Documentation Together
Before Thawte can issue your server certificate they have to be absolutely certain that they are issuing it to the correct company. By "correct" they mean that the company Thawte is certifying owns the Internet Domain Name, which they have certified, that it is registered as a company in one or more countries, and that its registered name is the same as that on the certificate Thawte is signing. Thawte asks you to send them some documentation to prove that information.
The precise documentation Thawte needs varies based on your country and type of organization. It's most important that you get the documentation that proves your registration with NATIONAL, STATE, OR PROVINCIAL authorities, because that is the documentation that will determine the precise organization name you ask for in the certificate.
If you do not use the EXACT organization name as registered with NATIONAL, STATE, OR PROVINCIAL authorities and we have to re-submit your request to Thawte with a organization name correction and new CSR, THERE WILL BE A $50 SUPPORT FEE FOR RE-SUBMISSION. Basically, your organization name is what you can prove.
For a list of the documents required go to:
Proof of the Right to a Domain is not required if your domain ends in:
.COM, .EDU, .ORG, .NET .SE
It is imperative that the information that you provide on the Thawte request form be correct and reflect what is on your company documents. Failure to provide the correct information up front will lead to unnecessary delays in the processing of your SSL certificate. Professional Internet Business Services will not provide refunds on certificates issued with incorrect information as you, the customer, provide that information.
What will I need to do?
When purchasing a Thawte Certificate through us, we will handle all technical submissions. After we have submitted the technical info, we will email you a request code so you can start providing the documentation to Thawte. It is the customer's responsibility to provide the documentation as indicated above and per the instructions we will email you. This is the only part of the process that we cannot do for you, as we do not have access to your company's private documents.
What is the process?
- Fill in the request form in the next email.
- Within 1-2 business days, you will receive an email from us with your request code and instructions on providing your documentation to Thawte.
- You fax the documentation to Thawte.
- Thawte will then verify the authenticity of your documentation.
- Upon verification, Thawte will issue the certificate to us.
- Within one to two business days of receiving the certificate, we will install the certificate and send notification email.
What if there is no organization name?
(i.e. working as an agent for larger corporation like Avon) If you do not have a registered company or DBA name, then you should enter your personal name in place of the organization name.
How can I monitor the progress of my request?
Using the request code we send you and the password you request, you can go to https://www.thawte.com/cgi/server/status.exe to see the current status for your request.
How do I use the secure server?
With the certificate, all pages of your site will be available on the secure server. Whenever you want to go to a secure page, simply use https:// in the URL of the hyperlink instead of http://.
What are the technical limitations on Thawte certificates?
Please go to http://thawte.com/certs/server/browsers.html for limitations. Professional Internet considers the limitations to represent a very small portion of Internet users (under 3%.)
What is a DUNS# ?
A nine-digit, non-indicative identification number assigned by Dun & Bradstreet to all business establishments in the Dun & Bradstreet information base. It is often referred to as the social security number for businesses. It is required that you have one to get a Verisign certificate, but it is not required for a Thawte certificate. However if you have one it can serve to speed up your request.
